You can tell the difference between real comedians and CBC commie-medians. Real comedians are known outside Canada for being funny (Jim Carrey, Dan Akroyd, Jim Candy, etc, etc). CBC flunky commie-medians are only known outside Canada for being insulting (especially to the USA).

I thinkie thinkie he is going to find working the blogging audience a little harder than manipulating the brainwashed audience of a state run propaganda machine. Bloggers tend to look beneath the surface and beyond the rhetoric.

Rick Mercer responsible for anti-American bias?

I have no scientific bias to back this up but when I was reading through the posts over at the Mercer-nary the thought occurred to me that Rick Mercer might be responsible for a huge amount of anti-American bias in Canadian society!

Does everyone else remember the segment called "Talking to Americans"? That was when Rick toured the U.S., made a dumb statement about Canada (like prime minister Horton scoring a double-double) and recorded the retarded comments that would then ensue. Several points worth noting here. First is that even in the Democratic hotbed of Harvard University, political science profs would have NO idea of anything Canadian. Democrats are supposed to be the smart ones remember. Not like those evil anti-abortion anti-gay marriage Christian rednecks from Texas. Second point would be - would you get different answers if you asked enough Canadians the same questions? There was never any mention of how many people had to participate to get 10 stupid responses.
But lastly, the most important point that this raises is ... Canada is becoming increasingly irrelevant. Not just in the US but pretty much around the world. Soft power doesn't work. And you can only run on your Vimy Ridge/Juno Beach/Korean War reputation before people start to ask questions like "that's great but what have you done in the last 60 years?". Why would Americans care to learn about Canada. We're the country that loves to generate most of our GDP selling things to the US and then criticize everything they do.

But my original point was that Rick Mercer was using taxpayer money to flog anti-Americanism. That's nuts and just another reason to cut off the CBC.

State-run CBC employee steals website domain name from Conservative to mock him

An employee of the state-run CBC division of the Liberal Party has played a prank, yet again, on another Conservative Party MP. (Hat tip: Exile from our forums).

This time he’s doing what the Liberals indignantly decried as unethical and repugnant: he registered the expired domain name of a sitting MP, just as the leader of an interest group did to a Liberal Party MP earlier this spring. I denounced the move in this blog when it happened.

The DefendMarriage.ca group wasn’t an employee of the state—as Rick Mercer is the state’s official comedian—however.

State comedian Rick Mercer is not funny, he’s just another liberal. And I’ld love to check the receipts he turns in to the CBC for expenses. Note that when you check with WhoIs.net, the registration isn’t in Rick Mercer’s name, but rather that of one of the internet’s “hidden owner” companies.

Stick to what you know. Either that, or even up the shots and show you have no bias.
As a taxpayer, I guess that makes me a quasi-employer, doesn't it? Which is kinda weird. But maybe that means you'll either pay attention, or go anonymous, or, perhaps, just away.

Just a thought, but "real" blogs allow comments.

I took great interest at Rick Mercer’s new blog and at first thought it was pretty amusing how he one-upped Jason Kenny by buying a website with his name on it. Bravo, good for you Rick. And the “Fun with Photoshop” things with Harper are a hoot, really!

Unfortunately, just like the CBC, Rick’s comedy wears a bit thin after seeing the same thing over and over. And like the CBC, it’s pretty obvious that Rick would never bite the hand that feeds him. So although I did have his blog bookmarked, I think I can move now and leave one of Paul’s puppies to chew the slipper on his own.

Oh, before I depart from this subject, I was going to get a Rick Mercer site and have some fun with Photoshop but that seemed a bit childish to me. Besides, I can have fun with Photoshop right here!

Mercer was legendary for his gag against former leader Stockwell Day and the old Canadian Alliance's Citizen's initiated referendum policy. The policy would allow a national referendum to occur if a certain percentage of the population signed a petition asking for one on a particular question. The vote would not be binding, and would require the motion to be ratified by parliament. Apparently Mercer doesn't believe that letting the people have a say in contentious issues in a national referenda is a good idea. No, populism is evil to Rick Mercer. So he started a campaign to get Stockwell Day's name changed to "Doris Day" by getting Canadians to sign on online petition. The gag was a classic. And it destroyed Stockwell Day at a time when he didn't already need someone else to make even more of a joke out of him than the national media had already made him....

He's a Liberal. And he's funny. And he's dangerous. Stop laughing people - because Mercer's not laughing with us, he's laughing at us."

Mercer's complaint with Kenney is as follows...

"Anyway while the speaker was admonishing Jason for such unparliamentarily language as “ignorant” I started thinking “What are the chances that Jason Kenney is so stunned that he would call another MP ignorant for not having registered his domain name when he hasn’t bothered to register his own?”

...except that's not what Kenney said. He didn't criticize Boudria for not registering the domain, he criticized him for complaining to Parliament about something that is in no way Parliament's jurisdiction, instead of using the proper channels. Of course, if Kenney had then staged a big protest over Mercer's registration of jasonkenney.org, it would have been very hypocritical. But he didn't; Kenney seems to have taken it with good humour....

Rick Mercer is guilty of violating the first rule of satire: it has to be funny. It's okay to be one-sided or even partisan as long as you follow this, which Mercer failed to do.

Does anyone else find it interesting that Rick Mercer is having a good time berating Jason Kenney for not registering www.jasonkenney.org ? Doesn't .org ususally get reserved for organizations and individuals would use .ca or sometimes .com? I know Jason's been apt to put on a few pounds but to call him an organization would be a bit of a stretch.

How about Canadians screaming to see your expense reports? Rick Mercer is running his own blog and has bought Jason Kenney’s domain name and forwarded it to the Marxist Leninist party of Canada. Joel Johannesen shows that the registration for the site is not exactly in Rick Mercer’s name.

Fun is fun but I don’t feel like paying for this jackassism. Also does anyone find it amusing that he links a conservative to a new liberal philosophy? Mercer - better get out your manifesto.
